Located in Avalon Forest, Stony Brook, New York
Avalon Forest is the western portion of Avalon Park and Preserve of which begins at the Grist Mill in Stony Brook, New York. For Avalon Forest, you can park in the designated lot at N 40 54.694 W 073 09.146. This is just off Harbor road.
Avalon Park was named and preserved in the memory of Paul Simons. Paul was killed in a bicycle accident in September 1996. He was 34 years old. The following year, his family established a foundation in his name and, through it, purchased 84 acres of dormant land near Mill Pond in Stony Brook. The name comes from the final resting place of King Arthur. It was also the name of Pauls favorite song by the band Roxy Music, and the name of his dog.
The cache is is a regular size rubbermaid container and contains the following items: colored pencils, Buzz Lightyear keychains, helicopter toys, koosh animals, alien erasers, race cars, super balls, whoopie cushions, Dora the Explorer toys, wheresgeorge bills and more.
This is our first hidden cache!!!
The trails are marked and well defined. Some portions have a bit of an incline with some tree roots exposed, and the last part may require mild bushwhacking with elevation changes. All in all, not bad though.
We hope you enjoy finding this cache as much as we've enjoyed hiding it. Please remember to always respect this area, and if you get a chance, please visit the portion of Avalon Park that begins by the Stony Brook Grist Mill. You will not be disappointed.
