The
Camelback Bridge was built in the Lee County community of Cumnock
in 1908 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
A 40-acre county park has been developed around it. The bridge
crosses the Deep River between two counties - Lee and Chatham. The
park offers picnic tables, a couple of shelters and places for
putting in your canoe/kayak.
Other nearby historic sites include the Endor Iron Furnace and the
Egypt Coal Mine, both of which figured prominently in the Civil War
for the Confederacy.
Bring your own pen or pencil! The bridge is an interesting
engineering achievement.
