Hawk 17 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Hawk-eye: Well ... a year with no traffic ... and two bugs going nowhere ... time to archive. I've picked up the bugs and will place them in other caches ... no physical caches near my location ... so they will probably have to ride back across the Pacific to the USA with me.

The monks are also clearing the area of the cache ... so too much of a chance on it going AWOL.

Geocache Description:

WOLF MOUNTAIN CACHE

Fee area 15 RMB
Generated by The Selector

This cache is my first in China. It is located on Wolf Mtn. A commercial enterprise by the monks that live there ... for sure ... but it is quite an interesting site near the city of Nantong. On a hot summer day the breeze is wonderful from the prayer tower. There is a 15 RMB (about $1.80 US) fee to climb the mountain ... and this will get you to the cache. It will require another charge to get to the compound around the prayer tower and another 3 RMB ($.37 USD) to climb the uniquely steep steps inside the prayer tower. I HIGHLY recommend this climb for the view alone.

On the weekends this can be very, very crowded so care should be used to obtain the cache. The coordinates will take you to a stone bench along a trail. The cache is located beneath a fallen tree near the root ball. It can be seen down hill due north Magnetic ... a little more than 100 feet from the bench. They are naturally curious in the area ... so use caution to retrieve and re-hide the cache ... I recommend getting the cache and taking back up the hill to the stone bench in order to fill out the small log book. It is only a small plastic tea container like you see every Chinese man and woman carrying around with them every day so trade items should be small. Initial placement contained only the log book, pencil and a travel bug ... so don't come for riches ... just enjoy the journey.

My company's China office is in the city of Nantong so I'll be by here quite often. If you're planning a visit. Email me ... maybe we can meet after your cache hunt for a "semi-cold" bottle of pijiu! Contact me early enough and I'll make the climb with you!
