Geocache Description:

First you must get to the abandoned mining town of Kirwin. Follow any good map or ask someone in Meeteetse for directions. 4-wheel drive is preferred, or at least a high clearance vehicle. This cache requires a number of hours, as it is a long way from the main drag and the candy store. If you love the history of the west, spectacular scenery, and adventure, you will relish this cache and it will be worth the day you spend to find it.

Another cache of intrigue, adventure, and history by Soapy Dale. On one occasion, Amelia Earhart, America’s favorite aviatrix came from back east to Meeteetse, Wyoming with her publisher husband, George Putnam. In July 1934 they stayed at the popular Double D Dude Ranch, then owned by their friend and adventurer Carl Dunrud. Amelia immediately fell in love with the area and asked Carl to build her a cabin on a site where she had filed a claim. Carl agreed, but he had only finished a few logs up on the cabin when Amelia disappeared on July 2, 1937. Amelia’s last flight, to circumnavigate the globe at its waist, was in a Lockheed Electra 10 E. There are only 14 Electra’s left in the world, and only one 10 E. An engraving of the 10 E is on the travel bug. When Amelia Earhart disappeared President Roosevelt authorized a search with 9 naval ships and 66 aircraft, spending over four million dollars. Amelia’s Wyoming friends placed a monument honoring her at the town of Meeteetse. Clarence Dollar, one of her Wyoming friends, built a cabin and shed next to her cabin site and ran sheep in the mountains nearby. His buildings still stand. Seeing the Double Dude Ranch, going to the ghost town of Kirwin, and hiking 1.3 miles to Amelia’s Cabin will be a great adventure for you. Take a picnic lunch and see the spectacular mountain scenery. Stop in Meeteetse and look at the monument honoring Amelia. Stop at the wonderful Meeteetse Museum and look at the collections, including photographs of Amelia by Belden.

The cache is a 1-½ quart Tupperware container hidden in an obvious place. You will want to use the hint on this one. The cache originally contained the following:
