I-83 Travel Lodge Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Indy-Md: Thanks JMT-17. This comes timely, as events in my life have me moving and traveling not by here anywhere near as much as I had, so maintenance of this cache would become by early next year more challenging. So I had been considering archiving this cache anyhow. I'll just take care of it today.

Sorry to see it go, but future cachers won't have to suffer the burial smells. I'll try and open up a new motel/travel lodge as soon as I can get a handle on the new area I'll be living in.

Geocache Description:

This is a travel lodge for Travel Bugs ONLY. Located about halfway between York, PA, and Baltimore, MD, at the Exit 31 Park & Ride off I-83. A quick stop for dropping off or retrieving Travel Bugs.

While not as heavily traveled as I-95, I-83 does see a fair amount of traffic to/from Pennsylvania/Maryland. It is a relatively easy walk to get to the cache from the park-n-ride. The terrain rating reflects the last 30-40 feet. You shouldn’t need any hints, so all I will say is you should travel along the edge of the woods until you find a likely opening into the canopy, then duck in. Be careful with your head of the dead thorn branches above and behind when you are at the cache itself (i.e., don’t stand up fast).

There are certain rules, as per any hotel, motel, or lodge:

  1. This is a Travel Bug Only cache (eg, it’s a theme cache – where TBs are the theme!). Only TBs are to be placed in the cache, please. The sole purpose is for dropping off/retrieving TBs that are trying to get to certain places more efficiently or quickly.
  2. All TBs should be logged both in the log book within the cache as well as at www.geocaching.com (as soon as it is feasible) when being dropped off. This way TB owners know where their TBs are, and other cachers will know what is available or not. Please if possible note any goals you are aware of for the TBs placed in the cache to help the next cacher know if they can help the TB or not.
  3. All TBs should be logged as being taken when they depart the lodge. Both in the log book as well as on the website and the TB’s own webpage. That’s a lot of logging, yes, but really, the tracking is necessary so TBs do not become lost.
  4. The lodge is open 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Rooms available.
  5. Your first visit to the cache should be logged as a Find, as per normal caching procedure, but subsequent visits should be logged as a Note (you can only ‘find’ a cache once). You are welcome to come visit the cache and log it as a find, even if you are not swapping TBs.
  6. Please if you opt to take more than one TB, replace them with other TBs.
The cache is a relatively sizeable ammo box, donated courtesy of CCCooperAgency.

A continental style breakfast will be served on location to all TBs that reside in the lodge for more than a few days.

10/15/03 Note: Due to the unfortunate discovery that the area near the travel bug lodge is a dumping ground for roadkill, the lodge has moved northwestward from its original position by about 400'. Hopefully this will keep the offending odors to a minimum for future and returning cachers. The new positional coordinates have been updated and are reflected above. Sorry for this inconvenience.
