Geocache Description:

Nice walk on the east side of the river, starting at the last covered bridge in Eastern Conn. View of the falls nearby.

Salmon River State Forest: The first land for this forest was purchased in 1934. The forest now covers over 6000 acres in Hebron, Colchester, East Hampton and Marlborough.

Among the features of the forest is the only remaining covered bridge in eastern Connecticut. This bridge spans the Salmon River near Route 16 in East Hampton. Very picturesque! The forest also features a handicap accessible fly-fishing area, a disabled veterans fishing area, and, as the Salmon River is a key river for Atlantic Salmon restoration.

So the full story is that in 2003 during the first Magellan cache hunt, the site in Southern CT vanished. I e-mailed the head of Magellan marketing and volunteered to place a new site. I liked the Salmon River area and choose clues about "something being fishy" and gave the altitude of the site. The first finder figured it out when someone from NH adopted the cache and placed it here.

Good hunting!!
