Geocache Description:

Take a trip down Route 66 to Bridgeport Hill.

This ‘new’ portion of Route 66 was built in 1933. It has been bypassed now with a new 4-lane highway. Bridgeport Hill is a long steep grade a few miles East of the ‘Pony Bridge’. It is said that many Model A’s and T’s had to climb this hill backwards. Their engines generated more power in reverse. Also, some early autos had gravity-fed gasoline tanks which meant a steep hill caused the fuel to flow in the wrong direction!

At the crest of Bridgeport Hill I have placed a camouflaged ammo can filled with Route 66 souvenirs(not a 'theme' cache, so take one if you like) and a log-pen-pencil. The slope is very steep and difficult leading to the cache, so you may have to go ‘Uphill Backwards’. There may be a less direct alternate route in, so do some exploring. There is a gravel parking area on the shoulder, but check the traffic when walking about. Please respect private property - you will not have to climb any fences or leave the right-of-way to access this cache!
