If you're not a local, right now you're probably asking yourself, "So now, just exactly what does "Toad Suck" mean?" Well, here's the (generally accepted) story:
Long ago, steamboats traveled the Arkansas River when the water was at the right depth. When it wasn't, the captains and their crew tied up their boats to wait where the Toad Suck Lock and Dam now spans the river. While they waited, they refreshed themselves at the local tavern there, much to the dismay of the folks living nearby, who were said to remark, "They suck on the bottle 'til they swell up like toads!"
Hence, the name Toad Suck. The cache can be found in an ammo box located very close to where the legendary tavern once stood. Even though the tavern is long gone, the legend and fun live on at a huge festival held every spring in downtown Conway called, aptly enough, Toad Suck Daze.
You won't need to go far from the mowed area. There's a playground, pavilion, and camping close by and this is also a great area to do some fishing! While you're here, don't forget to check out the other caches just across the river!
** IMPORTANT NOTE **: Park is only open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
When you rehide the cache, make sure it's hidden in the manner in which you found it, so that others may enjoy the search as much as you did. As with all our caches, if you have problems, feel free to email us!
