Follow the picture clues to find a cache hidden deep in 'alien' woods!
This cache was set by Seasider by adopted by Yorkstan in June 2004. All details below are from Seasider
THE CO-ORDINATES ARE FOR THE PARKING LOCATION AND NOT FOR THE CACHE LOCATION.
The Maureen in the title is an acquaintance of mine who is a bit of a UFO buff and a bit gullable. The woods are the Standrise Plantation next to Carleton Moor near Skipton.
The Moor is known in UFO circles to be a 'window' area where strange lights are seen. One warm summer's night many years ago I camped out with 3 friends on the Moor and we saw a very strange light indeed.
The sighting was genuine enough and was certainly not anything conventional, however down the years the story has been embellished for Maureen's benefit.
Indeed, after being shown very carefully edited video footage of a 'subterrainian installation', 'men in green uniforms waving strange impliments', 'power lines disappearing into the ground', 'buildings with painted out windows', 'a strange subterrainian buzzing noise', 'bizarre concrete runways' and having met the 'farmers in black' in the local holstelry, she is convinced that an alien base is thriving in the woods!
If you wish to visit the 'base' then be aware that the footpath does indeed go down to the reservoir but you should not disturb the fishermen!
Now, this is why it is a puzzle cache. The GPS reception in the woods is lousy (perhaps the aliens are blocking the signal) so all you have to go off are picture clues!
How to find the cache:-
1) Park at the given co-ordinates.
2) Walk up the road for a few yards until you find the footpath stile.
3) Follow the footpath through the woods until you come to a gravel path.
4) Turn left and follow the gravel path until it turns to the right.
5) When the path turns to the right go straight on down the grassy path. The cache is somewhere between there and the edge of the woods!!
6) Observe the picture clues and find the cache.
The cache at the moment has regular contents (they were all I had with me) but in time it will take on an alien theme and when it does then Don't Go Into The Woods, Maureen!
25th October 2005: Most of the pictures were updated (just the picture of the cache remains the same, with Seasider's GPS in it). This should make it easier, as the old pictures were several years old.
