Geocache Description:

A small cache in downtown Clayton where many trails meet.

When we lived in the UK, we liked to hike the countryside and found many of the best hikes ended near a pub. It was great to stop in for a pint, relax and often get out of the rain! It seemed so...civilized. Here's a chance for the same back home in America.

This cache is placed so it can be combined at the beginning or the end of a hike to the north side of Mt. Diablo State park or to the west side of Black Diamond mines. Within a few hundred feet of the cache are several restaurants, a nice family sports bar, a coffee shop and a pizza place, so consider wrapping up a hike here and replacing some of your lost calories! If needed you can park for the day in front of the Clayton Post Office or at the library nearby.

The cache is located at a major trail junction, and about 140 feet northwest of the cache is a great map board with information on connecting hikes all over Contra Costa County. The map board is actually on the American Discovery Trail which runs more than 4000 miles from Delaware Bay all the way to Point Reyes! This was also thought of as a cache for kids, so the difficulty is very low, and a very clear spoiler is encrypted so you won't come up empty handed.

Finally, we refilled the cache with foreign coins. You can make a withdrawal at this ATM with no charge or hidden fees if you need a coin for the World Bank cache a mile or so away in Mount Diablo SP - you can follow the trail maps and walk it easily.

NOVEMBER 30, 2005 - This has been popular! Replaced the container and log sheet, and added coins from Italy (old lira), Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan coins, as well as an extremely rare ruby. Plus, we put in a Polar Bear coin from the wilds of 'Ice' land....enjoy.
JANUARY 2012 - New cache - brown-painted altoids box.
