This is located at the Garland Bay Forest Service Recreation Site at Bernard Creek 10 km north of Riondel. The road from Riondel quickly deteriorates into a rough gravel road, very bumpy for most of the 10 km.
This cache is named for Ralph 'Tuffy' Garland. Tuffy was born in Kaslo in 1902, worked for Cominco for 45 years and was a hockey player with the Trail Smokeaters. After his retirement he spent the summer months during a 20 year period starting in 1967 looking after this campsite. Sounds like my ideal retirement employment!!
This is another favourite place to go and camp, swim, fish, paddle or just enjoy the view for a while.
The cache is in a tobacco container, and holds an emergency poncho, a handy knife, a whistle/survival kit, fish biner etc...
