Geocache Description:

On a trip to Cairns, my husband and I were disappointed by the limited number of caches in the area. We enjoy geocaching when we travel because the caches typically take us to delightful places off the beaten path, where the average tourist wouldn’t normally venture. So, after spending a delightful afternoon in the Tablelands, we decided to set-up a virtual cache of our own.

This cache is located between Malanda and Yungaburra on the Tropical Tablelands of North Queensland. The area around the cache is surrounded by waterfalls and "The Curtain" and "Cathedral" Fig Trees, in the area are amazing.

The coordinates will take you to a ceramic Cairn, which has a plaque that shows a small part of the history of the village that is located here. Use the first sentence in the 4th paragraph on this plaque to decode the 8 letter name of a state in the United States.

Using the code that "1" is the first letter in the sentence, “2" is the second letter, and “12” is the twelfth letter, etc, decode the following:

50 1 34 1 5 26 67 1

To get credit for this cache, EMAIL me the letters and numbers, on the license plate from this state, which is just one of the many lining the walls of “The Oldest Hotel on the Tablelands” dating from 1908, which is across the street from the Cairn. And, if you are really lucky, you’ll run into Tom Wyatt, while you’re there. If you do, ask him to show you how to play “Hookie” and be sure and tell him, Lyle and Pam sent you.

This is the first cache that we have set-up. Who would have thought our first one would be 8,000 miles from home.
