Geocache Description:

Beautiful Sheep Lake sits at about 5800', an easy 2.5 mile hike from Chinook Pass. Wildflowers are abundant in midsummer; blueberries are the prize after Labor Day. If you look carefully, you may see a mountain goat on the nearby cliffs above the lake.

Sheep Lake is an easy and very popular 2.5 mile hike from Chinook Pass. It makes a great day hike and is just outside of the Mt. Rainier National Park, so dogs are welcome. If you prefer, overnight camping is allowed (first come, first served) so long as you're at least 100' away from the lake. If you're looking for a longer hike and more views, continue on to Sourdough Gap, and then Sheep Skull Gap and down into Upper Crystal Lake. The National Park boundary is at Sheep Skull Gap, so no dogs are allowed beyond there, and camping permits are required.

Although the hike to the Sheep Lake is easy, the last 150+ feet to the ammo box cache is not. A talus slope is involved -- there is no direct trail to the cache. The potential for injury is higher, so be careful and use your best judgement, especially if children are involved. Balance can be tricky -- watch your step carefully. Remember, "Cache seekers assume all risks involved in seeking a cache."

Finally, please let me know if there are problems with either the cache or its coordinates. Most importantly, have fun!
