Dr. John Featherston Eckford (1899 - 1986) was a beloved Oktibbeha
County physician. He graduated from Tulane Medical School in 1926
and the next year joined his father, also a physician, practicing
medicine in this area. In 1947 Dr. Feddy opened Eckford Clinic on
Washington Street near the courthouse and continued practicing
medicine there until 1985.
On the grounds of Oktibbeha County Hospital is a memorial that was
erected to Dr. Feddy. The lock & lock cache is located just off
the Fitness Trail that starts just to the east of the memorial. The
most interesting part of the memorial is currently obscured by the
landscaping; under the arch is a replica of one of the well worn
steps into Eckford Clinic. Take a few moments to check out the step
and then enjoy the short Fitness Trail and the cache. Dr. Feddy
delivered 5,500 babies during his 58 year career. He once said, “I
get credit for a lot, but I don’t think I ever saved anyone’s life
without the Lord’s help.”
Please remember, trade up, trade equal, or don't trade. A
Madigras necklace is not an equal trade for a 4-pack of AA
batteries!
