On September 18, 2003, Hurricane Isabel, a powerful category I storm, made her way across the Hampton Roads area, causing property destruction to hundreds of thousands of residents due to flooding, tree damage and wind damage. Millions of people were without power, some for as long as two weeks. The local geocaching community saw approximately 20 local caches affected by Isabel, either by being obliterated by her high winds, soaked or washed away by the floods she caused, or simply made unavailable by numerous park closures caused by tree falls.
This cache was the first new cache placed in the Hampton Roads area after the storm. To get to the cache, you will walk through some awesome evidence of Isabel's fury. As you witness the toppled giants, pause to reflect on the power of the hurricane and the people who were affected by it.
Cache is a standard size ammo can. If possible trade items that that would be useful when living through a hurricane (fortunately, this would include any small toys that don't require electricity!)
Some items in there now are: a flashlight, work gloves for cleaning up all the debris, some bungees to tie things down, a tape measure to measure how much water you get, a rain poncho, and some batteries.
In addition to your trade item, you may also leave a picture of evidence of Isabel's Fury or post one online that you'd like to share.
