This is an offset cache. The co-ords above will bring you to a point where you must gather additional info to calculate the location of the actual container, which is a small ammo can. Depending on your chosen parking spot, the info-gathering point may be about halfway between your car and the cache.
In keeping with the name of this preserve, it seemed only fitting that geocachers indulge in some basic arithmetic exercises to compute the co-ords of the second/final stage.
To calculate the latitude for the cache: start with N42° 15.796; multiply the total number of words on line one and two of the plaque by the number of inches in a yard; add that result to the final three digits (796 plus your result).
To calculate the longitude for the cache: start with W087°55.635; multiply the total number of letters in all words on line one of the plaque by the number of weeks in a year; subtract that amount from the final three digits (635 less your result).
For those who are interested in how we arrived at the name of this cache, please read our welcome message on the first page of the logbook.
As for the ratings, we believe they are appropriate, assuming you don’t leave the path too soon.
In addition to a logbook and implements of written construction, the cache contains these trinkets for trading: bag of marbles, carbiner thingie, squishy snowman keyring, Mickey Mouse and Goofy magnets, Pocahontas stickers, eraser animal puzzle, farm animal kit (build a pig!), two unsharpened pencils, blunt-point scissors, flip book, birds of prey card set, and a tape measure.
Have fun and enjoy your caching adventure!
