Geocache Description:

This is an uphill climb to 10,722 feet. Some people experience thinner air to breathe. Be prepared for wind and cold in the cache area near the top of the mountain. Path is clear but rugged at places.

This is a wonderful beautiful nature hike through meadows and flowers and ending in a true alpine environment, but an exhausting one for many people. You can see Lake Tahoe from one side and the City of Reno on the other side. Cache site is only 445 feet from the top of Mount Rose. It is located within a few feet of the switchback trail.

Coordinates for the top of Mount Rose are:
N 39 20.628 W 119 55.075 at an elvation of 10,782 feet.

You can add a benchmark to your credits by locating the one near the summit at:
N 39 20.628 W 119 55.076 at an elvation of 10,781 feet.

This benchmark,(KR1728), was reported lost to a landslide, but I find that it not only is there, but it is at its original coordinates.

Directions: Driving towards Incline Village on Highway 28 from Tahoe City, turn left onto Mt. Rose Highway number 431. Only problem is, it has no street sign at that intersection. Drive about 8 miles towards Reno and just past Tahoe Meadows to the chained-off dirt road and cinder block building that sits up on the left side of the highway. There is lots of parking on both sides of the road. On foot, follow the dirt road that turns into a foot trail after about two miles, and follow the trail signs to the top. When you reach a pond on the left, turn right and you will see the trailhead sign. Go that way. Overall, from your parked car, it's a 5 to 6 mile hike to the mountain top. Bring water, food, and clothing to ward off cold and wind.

Enjoy the great adventure. We did!
