Now about this cache…
This castle has been in the ownership of the Ingilby family for
26 generations since 1320. Henry Ingilby collected taxes for Edward
III and this helped for the construction of Windsor Castle.
Oliver Cromwell was a guest here (as a prisoner) and there is
even a priests secret hiding hole.
The village has some unusual architecture as a former Ingilby
was interested in France. Note the village/town hall which is named
‘Hotel de Ville’ - Its the building three to the left
of the ice cream shop as you look from the castle
The grounds include a small lake and deer park.
There is ample free parking in the village (try the famous
ice-creams in the village shop-If available try the Turkish Delight
flavour) and the cache is a short 0.3 km walk from the centre of
the village alongside the castle, and onto part of the Nidderdale
way. At the cache site the deer park is on your right.
The owner of the ice cream shop varies the make, and the mixed
variety with Vanilla is the best option. Let me know what yours
was...
The main cache box is in a 1 litre snap lock box and see if you
can find the second (popped there as the main one vanished and then
re-appeared !!!) is a small 3 " x 2 " box
NB It is not a requirement to find both boxes, just one, preferably
the main larger one.
Good luck…
