Get your floppy fedora and your bandana ready for this Indiana Jones adventure. YOU, (and Indiana Jones) will find yourself pitted against the mysterious Thuggee cult of India for control of legendary stones with mystical powers. The sun-drenched locations of Raiders has given way to the lush, exotic jungles of the beguiling Withlacoochie Forest. Seek the treasure as if your life depended upon it! It just might.
The trailhead for this cache is at the intersection of Croom Road (CR 478 - the map below shows it as 480) and Trail 3 (a jeep trail) in the Withlacoochie State Forest – Croom Tract. The mark for this intersection is N 28 35.410 W 82 18.128. From this point, you can hike approximately 8/10’s of a mile on Trail 3, or you can drive there. If you drive, it is preferable to have a higher clearance vehicle (P/U or SUV) although not a must. A car usually can make the short trip (at your own risk) unless there have been recent rains. And, a 4-wheel drive vehicle is normally not necessary either.
This 8/10 mile hike, or drive, will take you to N 28 36.085 W 82 18.098. At this point, there will be a not-so-clear hiking trail leading toward the cache. You will also be able to pull your vehicle off to the side if you drive. It is a short hike and you should walk to this point - N 28 36.109 W 82 18.184. This is the best route DOWN into the pit where the Treasure of Jewels can be found.
Hopefully, like Indiana, you will not encounter any peril that you can’t overcome. No surprises any more, just beautiful, alluring scenery. This is a heavily treed area - with WAAS on, the best error correction was +-15 feet. Giant blitzing mosquitoes, potential for snakes, 50 foot cliffs, and swamp conditions nefariously plague the adventure. Do not attempt after nightfall.
NOTE: The Temple gods have become incensed! There is a curse on whomever stole the original treasure. A decoy has been set up to trap the insidious individual. Do not fall for the decoy. If you do, the good news is that you will be near the treasure. The bad news is that you will be imprisoned for 1000 years! If you get imprisoned, let the cache master know, and he will be able to free you - IF you are innocent!
