Geocache Description:

This is the third of three Scrabble Caches located in a wonderful park in SW Portland. This park is not fully developed and some of the trails are steep and can be treacherous when wet. There are routes to get to each cache without traversing steep and slippery trails so use patience and care.

We are not sure what to do with this cache. First, the hint for the third letter of the answer is permanently damaged. Then bees take over the area. Then the cache comes up missing (did the bees take it?).

This was the inspiration for the Scrabble cache. There was a tree in the vicinity that traced out the letter "N". It is still there but it now looks like an upside down "V". It just not the same.

If anyone is interested in taking over the cache and have good ideas to replace it, please let us know. In the meantime, feel free to log this cache if you find the other two in the park. If you have time, visit the tree. You can observe it safely from the bridge.

What follows is the old Cache description:

You know those little wooden squares with letters used to play the Scrabble game? This cache is similar to Scrabble as the letter clues are also wooden. But the letters are somewhat larger and immovable.

There are three separate caches that are hidden in trees in this park. They are labeled One, Two and Three although the order that these caches are found is not important. The lower ten feet of the tree that each cache is hidden in will resemble a letterEach cache is hidden near an object: the lower part of that object resembles a single letter. Your task is to find each cache and log it, determine the single letter that each tree resembles and then arrange the three letters to form a word. You must also determine how many points this word would be worth if it were the first word entered in an actual Scrabble game. Email your answer to us when you have finished the three caches. DO NOT ENTER THE LETTERS, WORD OR SCORE IN THE LOGS.

July 2010 Update: The tree for this cache suffered some damage and the letter it represents is no longer obvious. So we will tell you - it is an "N". But you still have to find the cache.

And while you are there, why not pull some ivy. Did we mention that we hate ivy?

There is a perception by the park managers that geocachers are causing damage to sensitive areas within the park (note the signs in the park for geocachers to stay on trails). These caches are located very near to established trails. As mentioned above, there is absolutely NO reason to do any bushwacking or cross the creek without going over a bridge to get to these caches. If folks do not follow these simple rules, we will have to remove the caches in the park. GPS signals in the park are very weak. If you walk slowly as you near the near the caches, you can get more reliable readings.
