Geocache Description:

NOTE: Please REPLACE the cache container and log book if you happen to be headed this way. It will be a few months before I can do that. 4 in one cache: 1,300 year old tree stumps, tall lighthouse, and Southern most tip of Nova Scotia, and near Canadas UFO site - Shag Harbour! Short 1/2 km walk along beautiful white sandy beach. Cache hidden in thorny grove just off the beach (about 60M from the Drowned Forest)

1,300 year old tree stumps can be seen at low tide along this beach of the most Southern tip of Nova Scotia. Short 1/2 km walk along beautiful white sandy beach.
There was a famous UFO crash in the bay outside of Shag Harbour, which is about 8KM from the causeway. (N43 29.916 W65 41.987) See: [UFO Info] http://www.mysteriesofcanada.com/Nova_Scotia/shag_harbour_ufo.htm
Note that the "Drowned Forest" is SUBMERGED under 12 feet of sea water for 1/2 the day and its in a protected, public beach area. Put another way, you can only see it at low tide so choose your timing carefully. The area is not marked, but is located about 1/2 km from the beach parking area on Cape Sable Island (there is a causeway from the mainland). Park at: 43 24.967N 065 36.861W
As researched by Ron Fry, August 2000: The stumps are imbedded in a peaty soil which has been dated to be 1,500 years old. When these trees were living there was a large lake in barrington bay, Cape Sable Island was linked to the mainland and the shoreline extended outwards almost a kilometer.
