Geocache Description:

This cache is a small black screw top box containing many exciting goodies!

The above co-ordinates are NOT that of the cache, but of ample free parking on the right immediately after Haverholme Bridge. In order to locate the cache you will need to answer the following questions taken from waypoints on the circular route. The length of the walk is approximately 1¾ miles and could be muddy at times. For the little people and some big, watch out for the nettles at the edges to some paths. There are several stiles that need to be crossed on the route, which all follow the public footpath.

Waypoint 1. N53, 01.893 W000, 21.228

Question – On the pump by the lock, how many teeth would there have been on the top cog? = A9

The pump was built to supply water from the River Slea first to the Priory and later to Ewerby.

After you cross the 2nd bridge turn right and follow this path. Then cross the stile on your left into the field (There may be horses) Proceed to:

Waypoint 2. N53, 01.938 W000, 21.349

Question – On the stile on the bridge, how many letters are in the 6th word on the bottom brown sign? = B

Waypoint 3. N53, 01.874 W000, 21.976

Question – How many slats do you walk on to cross the bridge? = C9

Continue walking straight across the field (this is a public footpath!)towards Waypoint 4.

Waypoint 4. N53, 01.700 W000, 21.940

Question – How many planks make up the width of the bridge? = ?+1 = D

Waypoint 5. N53, 01.689 W000, 21.920

Question – On the top sign pointing left, how many letters are in the first word? = E

Continue along the rather overgrown old towpath with the ancient neglected woodland on the left to find the cache.

Replace the relevant letters in the cache co-ordinates below with the answers to the above questions:

N53, 01.7BD W000, C1.EA7

Once found, the path continues back to the waypoint 1 and the carpark.

This Geo-cache is placed by the canalised River Slea close to Haverholme Priory. The Priory was once used by Thomas a’ Beckett as a hiding place from the King. It was also used by Charles Dickens as Cherney Wold in the book “Bleak House.” Before 1066, the land belonged to Leofric, Earl of Mercia and became the possession of his famous widow, Lady Godiva. The Lord of Kyme, Gilbert de Gaunt also owned the land at one stage, his daughter being the mother of Robin Hood! There are 7 locks on the 13-mile length of this navigation from Sleaford to Chapel Hill; most of the towpath is a public right of way.
