Spanish Treasure cache is a sister cache to Spy Rock and is located in the same general area.
The legend of the Spanish Treasure cache: Early 1700 's Spanish explorers hid treasure some where in this area of the Ozark Mountains. Spy Rock was the lookout point while the treasure was hidden. Over the years many have looked for the treasure. This cache is located at one of those digs. At this location you will find a very deep dug out/blasted hole where someone was looking for the treasure.
The direction to this cache are the same as for Spy Rock. Take Hwy 23 North from Ozark to Cass and turn right on Hwy 215 past the Cass Job Corp. Follow 215 to vicinty of the Redding Campground. Turn left onto Morgan Mtn Road and drive up the mountain.
As you turn onto Morgan Mtn road, turn your GSPr on and get a good sattelite lock. Proceed up the road and stop at a point where your GSPr gets you approximately 100 ft. from the coordinates. You may also look for a blue cross on a pine tree that marks this location for hikers on the Redding/Spy Rock loop. (There are several blue marks on the tree, I believe most are marks for trees to be cut down, but the mark you are looking for will be thinner lines than the others). Pull off to the side of the road.
You are looking for a round canister with a log book that is only big enough for small trade items (coins, key chains, etc.) It will not be necessary to go downhill from the hole to find the cache (hill is too steep).
"NOTE THE HOLE HAS BEEN FILLED IN". For those who have seen it can verify that it was awesome to see. But I guess somebody was being ever so safety minded and they decided to fill in the hole. Sorry for the hole disappearing, but as I talked with several cachers they reminded me that its the history as to why the hole was dug in the first place. You can still see mine holes around the area, check out CacheNaFlash's Mine Hole and Mine Hole Overlook caches. You can also see some mine holes as you drive up to the Morgan Mountain Road turnoff. Flagging has been wrapped a tree to show where the hole used to be.
Thanks & Happy Caching.
NOTE: You might want to do your homework, like check routes and location on topo maps before you head out the door to find this cache. Don't want you to get lost!!!!
