The cache is hidden in an Iron Age hillfort occupied c.200BC-AD100, defended by a bank and ditch with a complicated entrance. There is parking at N50 43.515 W003 09.059. You may have to find a clearing to get a better reading on the GPS.
This ovoid fort is defended by single dump-rampart fronted by a v-shaped ditch, which encloses an area of about acres (2.6ha). There is an entrance passage over sixty metres long on the southern side, which terminated in a large gateway built with massive timbers. The passageway leads to a triangular annexe which was presumably used as a corral for livestock. Occupation evidence from the site is sparse but one hut was found to contain a cache of sling-stones. Finds are in the Rougemont House Museum, Exeter.
