Geocache Description:

This rock became known as the "Mason Rock" when Joesph Mason's family migrated to Nebraska from the eastern United States in the late 1860's. Joesph had served in the Civil War, and his sword is now at the Nebraska State Historical Society Museum. This rock was one of the first stops made after the family crossed the Missouri River to settle in Nebraska. The children played on the rock while the parents set up camp. The family continued on to later settle in the Tecumseh,Vesta and Elk Creek area. Myon and George Mason of Tecumseh, two of the 13 children of George T. and Mary M. (Marsh) Mason lived in the area all of their lives. They were the great grandchildren of Joesph Mason. Six generations of Mason and Andersons have visited "The Rock" over the years. It is unique not only because of its size, but it is the only large rock in the vicinity. Container is an ammo can. Original contents: --sign-in notebook and pencil --precision screwdrivers --salt and pepper shakers --three key rings --one toy car --two rings for kids --Micky Mouse pencil --Sacajawea gold dollor
