This is a historical virtual cache. Enjoy this hunt any time of the year. Please respect the surrounding property. Pull off the road at the top of the hill and walk ON THE TRAIL to the cache. Pack it in, pack it out! To confirm your find, please e-mail me the General’s name and the 5 letter word, near the top, on the North side of the cache.
My father was a Colonel in the American Revolutionary War, as was my maternal grandfather. I was an American Episcopal Bishop and Confederate general in the Civil War, b. Raleigh, N.C. I left the army to study for the ministry and was ordained in 1831. I served as Missionary Bishop of the Southwest (1838–41) and Bishop of Louisiana (1841–61) and was the principal founder of the Univ. of the South, Sewanee, Tenn. (1857). In the Civil War I became a major general (June, 1861) in the Confederate army and was at first engaged in the defense of the Mississippi River. I commanded a corps at Shiloh (Apr., 1862), was promoted to lieutenant general shortly after fighting at Perryville (Oct.), and commanded the Confederate right at Murfreesboro (Dec., 1862–Jan., 1863). I assumed command of the Army of Mississippi (Dec.) and fought in the Atlanta campaign until I was killed by cannon fire (June, 1864) at Pine Mountain, Georgia.
Who am I? Also e-mail me the 5 letter word near the top on the North side of the cache.
Note: location is on private property. The public is welcome to visit the site, but placement of a physical cache here or nearby was not possible.
