Indian Ridge Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Pushmataha: Seems some serious muggles have attacked the area, stealing this cache and also nearby Mayhew Mission. They not only stole the cache, but the box it was in, too. Also, other geocachers have copied the hide technique for caches in the area, so this one is not as novel as it once was. It was fun while it lasted...

Geocache Description:

Situated comfortably on the watershed between Ash Creek and Ittobachi Creek in northeastern Oktibbeha County, this area exemplifies the juncture of the gentle rolling hills with the black prairie of northeast Mississippi. From about 1100 A.D. until the mid 1700's this area was home to the Chakchiuma Indians, who are thought to have been an offshoot of the Choctaws. The Mississippi State University archeology department is currently excavating a Chakchiuma settlement, the Lyon’s Bluff site, just to the northwest. One of the first recorded white settlements in the area, Mayhew Mission, was established three miles to the northeast in 1817. Indian Ridge is a private property that is used for Boy Scout events, church retreats, and private outings. Approval for access to the cache location has been obtained from the owner. You do not have to climb over any fences and PLEASE DON'T dismantle any phone company property! The cache IS NOT in or on the telephone junction box. The cache could be considered a small traditional or a large micro. There is a little space for small trade items.
