A three stage cache located in a popular recreation area where you'll have a view of the upper part of the canyon.
All three locations are in the form N32 nn.nnn, W110 nn.nnn. At the first stage, located near parking, you'll find a prominently posted four digit numeric sequence needed to calculate the location of the second stage, N32 AB.CDE, W110 FG.HIJ, as follows.
A = first digit minus 6
B = second digit plus fourth digit
C = third digit plus 1
D = first digit minus 1
E = fourth digit minus second digit
F = A squared
G = A + F
H = A + D
I = F - A
J = D
As a check of your calculated coordinates for Stage 2, the sum of the ten values for A through J must equal 41.
The second stage, a micro-mini with a pair of nn.nnn values for stage 3, is located at an attractive spot where you'll have an unobstructed view of the location of the third stage.
The third and final stage is a plastic jar approximately 4 inches deep by 3.5 inch diameter with a screw cap and is located in a spot that should remain well shaded for the better part of the day. The jar is primed with three cars, a rubber frog, a grave robber character and a few coins in addition to a log book and pencil. Space is tight so anything you plan to trade needs to be small.
Most of this quest will be on a paved road that may be accessed at any time by foot, by a fee based tram from 9:00AM to 4:00PM during the day, and by bicycle before 9:00AM and after 5:00PM on five days of each week. The paved road you'll be traveling is approximately 3.8 miles long, each way. To access the third stage, you'll need to go about 0.65 miles, and 270 feet up, on a moderate, well maintained dirt trail after the paved road ends.
