A short but rocky decent off the paved pathways of Clove Lakes Park
one of Staten Island's oldest and most scenic parks. great hiking and running trails abound, as does duck feeding on the lake. In winter there's even an enclosed ice skating rink on the victory blvd entrance.
Best parking is in the clove lakes parking lot at N40 37.11 W 074 06.442. weekends can be difficult, so you can park at Victory Blvd across from the DEP building.
follow any of the paved paths to the second bridge (depending upon where you enter, you could count it as the third bridge because the first one has two that are connected on a common path) till you hear the sounds of running water.
cache is best accessed at the bottom of the "waterfall". we took no less than 12 readings here, best we could manage was 19'accuracy. I'm not sure why GPSr was having difficulty, maybe the cloudy day we hid it. This is quite a busy area on the paved path but even the three of us making no effort to remain unseen, had little to worry about from passersby, the cache is just out of the way enough. this spot was Brian's choice, we had to "unhide" it from it's first home, he couldn't be talked out of this location! (if you have any trouble accessing this cache, please let us know. we can move it back to it's first hiding spot. thanks)
