Geocache Description:

Note that this is an OFFSET CACHE! The cache is a medium sized clear plastic container. The terrain is partially
rocky and wooded.

THIS IS AN OFFSET CACHE located in Pen Mar Park. The coordinates given are for a location with necessary information. Two distances will be found. The DIFFERENCE in the distances is required (i.e. larger – smaller = XYZ) as well as knowledge of which distance is larger.

The BASE LOCATION is:
39 deg 42.980 min North (must be modified)
77 deg 30.549 min West (used as is)

Treat XYZ as decimal minutes and either subtract or add it to the latitude depending on the distances. If the South distance is greater, ADD .XYZ to the BASE latitude minutes. If the North distance is greater, SUBTRACT .XYZ from the BASE latitude minutes. Therefore, the cache latitude is 39 deg 42.980 + or - .XYZ min.

Pen Mar is an old resort town with a great overlook view location. It is now very quiet compared to a century ago when an amusement park and many hotels were located there. The park is a superb spot - with the view, many benches, picnic tables, a playground, a covered outside dance hall, rest rooms, and a small museum. Free outdoor band concerts are given every Sunday afternoon in the warm months. A must-see nearby location is High Rock, just "up" the road. The view from High Rock is awesome. A very nice way to get there is to walk the "trail". It is about 2 miles each way. Somewhat strenuous but great if you can handle it.
