Geocache Description:

This is the second of a series of virtual caches though the historical residental area of Salinas.

Waypoint # 1	N36°40.325 W121°39.471
	This five gabled residence was built around 1885. It was the home of J Quigg.
	1. What figure is on the mailbox?

	William H. Weeks designed this Queen Anne style house for Dr. H. C. Murphy in 1901. The sunburst design in the gable is suppose to be a symbol of optomism. Dr. Murphy was a physician and community leader in Salinas from 1899 to 1935. He was the official physician for the city's California Rodeo. John Steinbeck was delievered by Dr. Murphy in 1902 at the Steinbeck home a few blocks away. Dr. Murphy's son, John was a writer and John Steinbeck acted as his mentor.
	2. At least six of the windows are framed by what unusal shape?

	The Homer Hayward (Of Hayward Lumber) House was built in 1920. It copies the thatched roofs of rural England and is called the Hansel and Gretal substyle of the Tudor Revival.
