Make sure to visit the other two caches along the route (Hotel Flat, and 9-Mile) and log a 3-fer.
Directions: From Highway 395, turn west onto Kennedy Meadows/Nine Mile Canyon road. Soon after reaching the top of the hill, turn left onto the Chimney Peak Scenic Byway road (Coordinates 35-52.157N 118-00.788W ). Park on the side of the road at coordinates 35-50.981N 118-01.597W and hike into the tree line to find the cache.
The cache is an easy and flat 500 feet into the forest. MAKE SURE YOU MARK YOUR CAR, as it's equally easy to get lost in the trees. If you forget, just stay on the high ground on your return trek to the car.
The cache coordinates (35-50.901N, 118-01.565W) should place you on a small rock-ledge overlook (careful, there's a very large rock overlook about 100 feet further south, don't confuse the two). Cache is relatively easy to find, visible in a crevice, covered by only a few branches.

The Lamont Peak Trail Cache is finally active! If you have time, continue south on the "Byway" to make it a 4-fer. It's a nice cache in a very pretty area.
