Geocache Description:

A micro located near the Tulare County Airport.

I've driven by this spot many times and wondered about the B-17 parked here at the freeway exit. I finally stopped off and took a look. There is also an F-4C Phantom and a Vietnam memorial, as well as the remaining buildings from a WWII training air base.

"Tex Rankin was president of the Hollywood Motion Picture Pilots Association in December 1940 when he signed a War Department contract to open a school to train U.S. Army pilots.. Mefford Field became one of the 62 civilian owned flying schools in the US. They taught 1.4 million WW II Army pilots to fly." (from the Wings Over Tulare County website)
