You know the city of Selma has tight budget restraints when the
only sign they can afford to mark this place is styrofoam cups
stuck in the fence.
In Feb 2002, the city of Selma was given a $1.4 million grant to
construct/reconstruct this site which has been designated a Texas
Archaeological Landmark by the Texas Historical Commission.
This is the original stagecoach stop that was built in 1849. It
was called the Harrison & Brown Stagecoach stop. It was created
to transport passengers and freight between communities of Central,
South, and East Texas. Stagecoach travel around San Antonio and
Austin was regularly endangered by bandits and hostile Indians.
Construction is estimated to begin in September, 2004. Maybe
they are just sitting on the money waiting for it to earn interest,
or maybe the grant money was delayed. Just think how much money the
Texas Parks Dept. could save if they copied the Selma Styrofoam
idea instead of those expensive granite markers!

I'm pretty sure the No Trespassing sign is intended for those
who would try to get inside the cyclone fence and into the building
itself. As I walked all around it, a couple of Selma cops came by
and they didn't stop to talk. However, to be on the safe side, the
cache is located on the other side of the sign.
