Geocache Description:

An out-of-the-way memorial to a fallen WWII aviator.

While scouting a location for a new cache I came across this crash site hidden in the Farmington Memorial Forest. At the listed coordinates you will find a stone marker with information on the aviator to whom it is dedicated. To find the cache, replace the missing digits in the coordinates below with information from the marker.

N41 43.xx3 : replace "xx" with the last two digits of the year the plane crashed, plus 24.

W72 52.yy5 : replace the "yy" with the last two digits of the type of plane he was flying, (i.e. "Pyy") minus 10.

There are wide woods road trails that will take you directly to the site, but you'll need to bushwack a bit to reach the cache. The hiding spot is in a low lying area that will be wet after prolonged rain, but no swimming is required.

You can park on Red Oak Hill Road near the Memorial Forest sign, at (approximately) N41 43.748 W72 51.877. There is room for one car there. In the winter you'll have better luck parking at the end of Reservation Road at N41 43.539 W72 51.971 since the lone parking spot on Red Oak is never plowed.

The cache is a mid-sized clear Rubbermaid container, hidden in a traditional manner.
