To reach the cache you walk past a very sacred place, an urupā, a burial place where many of the elders of the people lie. In Māori custom, eating food directly at an urupā is traditionally avoided because the space is strictly tapu (sacred). You are also requested to defer your the trip if there is any activity at the cemetery.
The preferred parking spot is listed as a waypoiojnt, at 37°36'37.6"S 175°11'22.7"E then walk across the access bridge. There is limited parking on the other side of the bridge.

The track is not routinely maintained, so conditions can vary.
When we last inspected it, the first track entrance starts off through gorse but soon enters regenerating bush.
The cache is a steel ammo can.
