The Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail is 70 miles long and goes from Ohiopyle, Pa to Seward, Pa. There are over night shelter areas located every 8 or 10 miles. For more information, go to http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/laurelridge.asp.
Trailhead parking is available off of Route 271 at N40-16.895' W79-02.980. Follow the access trail, marked with blue blazes, from the parking area to the main trail, which is marked with yellow blazes. Be careful not to take the trail branch to the shelter area. This should provide a round trip hike of between 2 and 3 miles.
For a slightly shorter hike, alternate parking is available on the SOUTH side of Route 271, across from the Laurel Mountain Summit sign at N40-16.592' W79-03.497'. Parking on this side of the road will give you better visibility when you leave. This can be made into a loop hike by continuing south along the main trail until it crosses the gas line and returning to the car via the gas line.
Initial contents of the cache, which is an ammo can, are of a ‘crafty' nature, as Linda works for a craft store. Also, if you have a favorite scripture...please share it with us. Have fun!
