Geocache Description:

This cache will take you through a forgotten part of Sumter: its downtown. Stages 1 through 3 are on downtown streets, and stage 4 and the cache are at a nearby park. The numbers that go in the letters correspond to the following stage's coordinates. Original contents are: basketball colored ping-pong ball, golf ball, toy monster truck, can of Play-doh, and a mini-fan.

Stage 1 is at some monuments in front of the Sumter County Courthouse. The cache coordinates above take you to a statue of the most important person in the early history of Sumter.

Now walk about 50 feet south to a plaque.

The coordinates take you to the most prominent building in Sumter, the Opera House. On the front of the building, there is a dedication plaque.

Year first constructed as City Hall: ACBE

Stage 3: N 33 DD.(A+1)B(A-1) W 80 (A+1)(A-1).EBE
These coordinates take you to the location of the first public school in Sumter, now the site of Sumter's Confederate Memorial. This site was granted for a public school by Col. John Blount Miller. The plaque at this site reads "Sumterville Academy".

These coordinates take you to a city park in Sumter.
Parking coords are N 33 55.390 W 80 21.069.
Follow the stage coords to a plaque dedicating the park, which is a memorial to Sumter's soldiers in World War I.
