Geocache Description:

Where does water come from?

I know you love deer. Yet, for this cache, you have to have serious feelings for what comes with the deer: ticks, flies and various creatures you will probably not see, but whose presence will be well known by the deer bones, the large pawprints and various other remains.

I always loved this place as another memento of Santa Barbara water history. But it's much more: a solitary hike in the only place in the county that looks and feels like the Northwest. Wet leaves crunch under your feet, Alder Creek flowing year round provides the soundtrack, while you look for banana slugs, deer, deer bones and of course, a geocache.

The cache is in plain sight: the vegetation is thick and the historical surprise you will find in this narrow canyon also makes GPS reception difficult. The cache is a metal cylindrical container with:

  • GPS batteries
  • 2 20-sided dice for that D&D game back at camp
  • a "Do It!" button
  • Educause Badge
  • Roll of Film, 400 ASA I think
  • a guitar capotasto useful if your backpacking partner sings out of tune
GPS Reception is not that great, so you might want to bring the hints below with you.
