Geocache Description:

This cache is located near Nolin River Lake in the Moutardier Recreational Area.

There is a feature in the Moutardier Campground that few people know about. If you stand on the shore of Nolin Lake in the “A” campground area, there is an old iron furnace about 200 feet out and about 10 feet under water in the summer months. In the winter the water level drops 20 to 30 feet and the furnace is visible from the shore. Even in the summer you can see the shore lined with the red colored iron ore. We used to try to get one of the near by camp sites because this is one of the only places in this campground where you can swim where there is a rock bottom and not mud.

This cache has been placed close to the historical marker that tells about the furnace. The historical marker has been placed high above where the furnace is. If you would like to see the old furnace, you can take a boat out near it in the winter, or you can see the iron ore along the campground shore in the summer. The cache is always accessible by parking in the small parking area near the marker and letting your GPS guide you from there.

The cache is a pre form container with only a log book.
