I recently noticed an archived cache on NPS property; since it had had a TB waiting in it for almost 4 months I contacted the cache owners and offered my services to search, rescue and relocate the cache. The Junaluska Jacobs were thrilled, so off I went. I had no problem finding Rolling Water (GCGBRH) and the cache was in good condition.
I wanted to place the new cache as close to the Deep Creek/NPS area as possible, and believe that I am within about 50-60 feet. (See "GSMNP Sign" photo.)
As you enter the park through the west entrance take the first right turn across a bridge, and then another more immediate right turn. This puts you on East Deep Creek Road and leads back out of the park, but on the other side of Deep Creek. Park at a pullout just past a staircase that leads down to the creek. Maybe you should follow that staircase down...
Be careful and aware of the creek's intensity. This cache may be near inaccessible when the creek is running high. Also be aware of the businesses on the other side of the creek--they can see the cache location quite easily.
The cache is located on the east bank of the creek. (See "Cache Location" photo if you want a visual spoiler.) The cache is 1 liter Rubbermaid flip-top container. Good luck, and enjoy!
