Since you haven't repaired your cache I can only assume that your priorities have changed and you’ve gone in a different direction.

While I feel that we should hold the location for you we can't do so forever.
If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the VERY near future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the current guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Let me know if I can be of assistance in the future.

Geocache Description:

A short geologic field trip viewing road cuts west of Fredericktown.

Missouri Highway 72 between Fredericktown and Ironton is packed with interesting geology, much of it exposed in road cuts. In this 3½-mile section, just west of Fredericktown, you’ll see a volcanic knob with younger sedimentary sandstones and dolomites deposited on its flanks. 500 million years ago this knob was a tiny tropical island, in a climate much like the Caribbean today. Geologists call this time the Cambrian era. There were no palm trees or birds on this island, nor fish in the seas. The only evidence we find of life in the Cambrian is algae, worms and shellfish.

This entire field trip takes place within 50 ft of blacktop, so you can do it anytime, even in the worst weather. 72 is not a busy highway and it has broad gravel shoulders, so you can park safely. Geology students from colleges all over the Midwest come here to study these exposures. At Photo 10 the shoulder is narrow, but there is a good parking spot just west of the roadcut.

The cache is hidden within the highway right of way. It contains a variety toys, keychains and trinkets, plus the log book. You can, of course, go straight to the cache and skip the field trip. But if you are at all interested in the history of our earth, I hope you’ll take an hour and examine these rock outcrops.
