Geocache Description:

This cache is an ammo box hidden next to a popular canal walk - good for a Sunday evening stroll with your dog.

The best way to get to this geocache is to start walking along the canal either in Marple or just a little bit further down, very close to Marple Station.

If you start the walk at Marple, you will get to see most of the 16 locks that allow canal boats to descend 214ft from the Macclesfield canal to the Peak Forest Canal - it can take the best part of a day to navigate them all by boat. As you continue walking along the canal, you will also be took over Marple aquaduct, a 100ft structure that towers over the river Goyt and was opened back in 1800.

If you are feeling energetic, you can continue walking along the canal all the way to Romiley, passing Chadkirk Church which was founded in 900 by St Chad, and the 924ft Hyde Bank tunnel. Alternatively, if you are feeling lazy, you can take your car down a small private road that runs on the opposite side of the canal path and is signposted "Aquaduct Business Park". There is parking about 1.5km down this road and the cache is only a few hundred metres futher away.

Enjoy the walk. Be stealthy when hunting the cache (it's quite a busy path). And for the creative of you, feel free to take a breather and stand on the aquaduct remodelling the lump of blu-tak I've provided into a new and interesting shape...

Update (24/6/5):
I'm getting mixed reports about the co-ords. I'm getting the ocassional complaint of it being way off, but most of the time people seem to find it ok or very easily which is very puzzling. I'm wondering if the scattered tree cover causes the problems. My advice - arm yourself with the clue just in case, and if you do have co-ord problems, could you take a reading of what you think it should be a mail me and I'll try to work out if it is a glitch to do with trees or whether there is something wrong. Otherwise...enjoy.
