Blithfield Reservoir was opened in 1953 to provide drinking water
for the growing population to the north of Birmingham. It was
designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 1988 in
recognition of its wide variety of wildlife. The reservoir also
accommodates the West Midland Bird
Club, the Blithfield Anglers Club, a
Sailing
Club and an Education Centre.
The cache is the traditional black-painted ammo box with an
official geocache sticker, and is hidden just alongside a country
lane near the reservoir. The road is single-track and not busy -
there should be plenty of chance to get the cache.
There's a good car park at N 52° 48.776 W 001° 54.527 (just at
the Abbots Bromley side of the causeway), and the route to the
cache is well-surfaced, so it should be easy going for anyone. It's
about three quarters of a mile to the cache, and there are some
nice views over the water, the nearby countryside, and Blithfield
Hall on the way.
