You can do a nice 1.25 mile loop on trails that are either hard packed dirt or asphalt. (BTW it IS possible to do a complete loop. When you approach an eastern dead-end wall with a fence on top, take a right and go over the knoll until you reach a regular dirt path then paved sidewalk.) The elevation gain is 150 feet. Great ocean/Catalina views from the top.
NOTE: NOV 2011: Because of the collapsing of Paseo del Mar in this area you must approach that street only via Western.
Park on Paseo del Mar, about 0.4 miles east of the ocean termination of Western Ave. There is also a free parking lot for White Point. When you have completed White Point you might want to walk along the ocean bluffs across the street, or descend the old asphalt road to the beach.
Those of you who would like a shorter (but less interesting) route to the cache can take a dirt trail that parallels Western Blvd starting at its intersection with Paseo del Mar. When you get to a fork in the trail, take the right path, leading away from Western, which will then join the main park trail system.
Hint: You may want to wear gloves while accessing the cache, and you will need to use both hands to extract it! The cache is a 6”x6”x2” plastic container. Original contents of cache: kaleidoscope; mini-BMW; kid’s compass; puzzle wristwatch; water gun; wine glass markers; scented candle. And as of 5/14/2014 my first ever GeoCoin.
