Geocache Description:

The original Scots were migrants from Ireland who, from about 500 AD, sailed across the Irish Sea and settled in Argyll, founding the Kingdom of Dalriada. Dunadd was the capital of this Kingdom and where its Kings were anointed.

From this foothold the Scots eventually incorporated their much longer-standing neighbours the Picts. By 843 Kenneth MacAlpin, King of the Scots of Dalriada, had also become King of the Picts. By 850 pressure from Viking raids caused the conjoined Kingdom of Alba to move its centre from Dunadd to Scone. Dunadd's days of glory were over. Once you have climbed the crag, you will see rocky slabs at the summit. One of these contains a carved bowl whose purpose is unknown. But nearby is another. This holds an imprint of a foot carved into the rock. It is thought that, following Irish tradition, the King of Dalriada was inaugurated here by placing his foot into the rocky imprint. As you can today. In any other country there would be a visitors centre and the whole site would be covered and air-conditioned. Here, you can stand and dream of past glory in the footsteps of Kenneth MacAlpin, with only the birds for company. There is a convenient signposted carpark. The coordinates will take you up the crag to the rocky slab. Look across the valley along true bearing 23 degrees and note the number of windows in the wall of the white cottage facing you. Also, use your skill and judgement to calculate Kenneth McAlpin's shoe size. Email me the answers to claim the cache. Please do not give any clue to the answers in your log, even encrypted.
