Geocache Description:

Located on the lower part of the BREIA trails, in Alder Creek, NY. This is an easy.3 mile walk or snowshoe to the cache. Park at coordinates: N43 25.390, W 075 14.749.

This is a theme cache. Please bring a Christmas Ornament to trade. This is our second cache highlighting these trails. This trail is more rustic, and not always groomed. It is meant for the snowshoe-ers more than the skiers, and the walkers more than the bikers. Yet this is a pretty trail, with lots of little new spruce trees popping up among the hemlock and hardwoods. If taken on a day with a light snowfall, this would be a pretty winter scene. So we decided to highlight the new growth of the little trees and name this cache after them, and make it a Christmas Tree Ornament trading cache. The cache is a yellow, Nestle Quik container, and quite visible when you are standing in the right spot. And oh yes, there is another surprise too. You’ll recognize it when you see it.

From the BREIA web page:
BREIA - “The Black River Environmental Improvement Association (B.R.E.I.A.) was formed as a not-for-profit corporation on August 16, 1984. It is financed through a private, family foundation. The purpose of B.R.E.I.A. is to develop a park system in which the public could enjoy healthful, outdoor recreation in a quiet, safe, and natural environment. B.R.E.I.A. was created for the perpetual enjoyment of the public.
The initial facility was a 10- kilometer trail on the towpath of the abandoned Black River Canal. Designed for year 'round use, the trail was, and continues to be, the most heavily traveled by cross-country skiers. Bicyclists and hikers can also be found on the nearly-level trail which includes the historic limestone locks of the old canal.
Today, B.R.E.I.A. boasts 50 kilometers of trails, most of which are machine groomed for cross-country skiing during winter months. The recreation trails are only a small part of the system however. The thousands of acres surrounding the paths and bridges are waiting to be explored and all of the plants and animal life available for study.”
