Geocache Description:

Cemetery is about 4 miles NE of New London, Texas. Getting there is an easy drive about 30 miles east-southeast from Tyler (which is 80 miles east of Dallas off of Interstate 20). ***NOTE: One of the unique distinctions is no longer fixed in place and is laying loose. Since I live 130 miles away, would the next geocacher to visit this cache please notify the church across the way, if they are open? I think the church is responsible for the cemetery. Your help would be appreciated. Tnx.***

On March 18, 1937, an explosion at the school in New London, Texas killed over 300 students and faculty. 112 of the victims are buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, but they are not what you're looking for. While I was visiting this cemetery and the graves of the victims, I found that several other grave stones bore a unique marker.

When you get to the cemetery, look for a fir tree that is flanked by two low bricked tombs with markers mounted horizontally. One of these bears the marker. Looking south (the way you came), you can see another fir tree with two upright tombstones that also bear the marker.

To prove you visited the cemetary, answer the following questions:
1. What does the marker declare?
2. What are the years on the marker?
3. At the first grave site, which tomb (left, right, east, west, etc.) bears the marker?
4. At the second set of tombstones, what is the family name on them?
5. What is the first name on the tombstone on the left?
6. Bonus: What is the first name of the tombstone on the right? (It is worn and may be hard to read.)

Note: Please, do not put your answers in your log posting. Instead, email them to me. If they are correct, you'll have the credit. If incorrect, I will delete your log entry. I'll let you know either way.

Directions from Tyler, Texas to the cemetery:

1. Take east US 64 about 18 miles to Arp.
2. Exit on to north TX 135.
3. Go about 1 mile north to east Farm Road 838.
4. Follow FR 838 until it merges into TX 323. Use caution, you have the yield.
5. Follow TX 323 north to TX 42.
6. From this intersection, continue north until you get to the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. (If you get to the intersection of TX 42 and TX 135, you've gone to far.) The cemetery is across the highway from the church. You can park on the highway shoulder, or (I think) in a tiny parking area next to the drive that enters the cemetery. This parking area is a small paved strip located between the road and the cemetery fence. Please don't park in the cemetary proper: the drive is for funeral procession access.
