High in the hills of the City of Oakland, is a great piece of land overlooking the Knowland Zoo. This pretty little open space owes its continued existence to its neighbors, who have repeatedly fought to keep the housing developers off of it. I thank them every time I come here.
In addition to great views of the city and Bay, the Oakland Zoo open space is home to joggers, dog-walkers, and lots of “alternate” land use. The local kids have made BMX courses hither and yon around the trees. Some enterprising soul has set up a Frisbee golf course. There is more than one grave site and marker memorializing a loved pet. You might see a local Search and Rescue team practicing their skills here, or see a dog learning to follow a scent trail. People have created small private spots for meditation. May the land always be open for all its various uses. This is the second time I've placed a geocache in this area. The first met its demise after goats were used to clear all the brush/cover from the area. If you see any signs of the goats returning, give me a heads up so I can rescue the cache.
