Geocache Description:

The second Scottish Annual Cache Bash will take place on the Bank Holiday weekend of May 29 / 30 2004.
It will be based at the following location:
N57° 11.029 W 003° 49.816
This is the location of the event cache.
It is a nice pub that serves good meals and real ales and is child friendly. It has a bunkhouse next door in a separate building for cheap accomodation.
This far north, and only three weeks from the longest day, you could cache in daylight almost right round the clock!

Event Format

New Traditional caches
There will be at least six new caches for the event which will not be made public until the bash. These caches will all be placed within a 10 mile radius (approx) of the event centre. These caches will remain in place after the event and will be "loggable". Most will involve some walking away from the road as befits this area of the country. One cache will be a multi cache - get the other five to obtain the coordinates of the sixth.

Event only caches
In addition there will be some "event only" caches for our younger geocachers, plus some novelty "items" for the weekend only. These will not appear on the website and so are not "loggable". The childrens caches, for under tens, will be "take away" only with gift items -no deposit necessary! These will not involve a big walk and hopefully will be approachable by buggy for most of the way.

Existing caches
Plus (for those who have not visited before) there are the six "Strathspey" regular caches along with the five "Summit to Sea" multi cache virtuals and linked "hidden cache" - which has had only one completion to date! There are also many other caches available in the surrounding area a little further away. Try a "zip code" search on GC.com using this local postcode - PH22 1RU, or use the "all nearby caches" option on this page

Mountain bike trail
Some of the traditional caches may be accessible via mountain bike as well as on foot - bring your bike or hire one locally. If there is any demand, I will set up a extra mountain bike (or longer walk!) multi series.

Event cache
Bring a suitable (valuable!) item for the event cache box plus normal items for the regular placed caches that will be logged.

All in all, you could come and claim well over a dozen caches from this bash!

Pre printed maps of cache sites, suggested parking spots and cache coordinates in OSGB and WGS will be available on the day, as well as an upload of all the coordinates to your GPSr (technological failures not withstanding). Garmin eTrex series and Garmin 12 leads will be available - otherwise bring your own lead. This service subject to you not all wanting the coords uploaded at the same time!

There will be a small entry fee per team. A souvenir of the event will also be specially made.
You will need to sign in at the event centre before you start on Saturday - sign in time from 10am. If demand is high enough, this might be extended back to Friday evening for early starters. E mail me if you would like this option. Depending on Geocaching website requirements, it is anticipated that the caches will not be publicised before sign in time but will be available for logging after the event.

If you are able to come, advance notice would be appreciated, especially if you would like me to put on the mountain bike multi - this will run if there is a minimum level of interest. Again e mail me for this.

Visit the bunkhouse website if you wish to stay at the venue:
www.aviemore-bunkhouse.com
Remember to mention "Geocaching event" in the email if booking accomodation here.
There is also plenty of other accomodation in the area such as traditional Youth Hostels in Aviemore and Glenmore, plus dozens of B & B type places upwards to posh hotels.
Contact Aviemore Tourist Information Centre for more info: (visit link)
All accomodation is best booked well in advance to guarantee spaces. This can be a very busy time of year - usually there are no midgies!! Remember it is a Bank Holiday weekend - three days of fun for everyone!
